Theory & Psychology
publishes exclusively in English. Papers must be original and not
currently under review elsewhere. Normally articles are 5000-8000
words, but may be as long as 10,000 words depending on the subject
matter. Notes or comments should not exceed 2500 words. For Book
Reviews click here . Papers
should be typed and double-spaced throughout.
As the Editors
prefer to obtain anonymous reviews, the manuscript should include two
title pages, one with identifying information and one with a title
only. All identifying information should be excluded from the body of
the text as well. Only manuscripts prepared in this fashion can be
subject to blind reviews. Manuscripts are not returned to authors.
Because of the broad range of subject matter covered by
the journal, authors are encouraged to supply the names of one or more
potential referees. Doing so in no way guarantees that the editors will
request reviews from these individuals, although such referees may be
called upon in addition to those of the editors' choosing.
Theory & Psychology
adheres to the publication style of the American Psychological
Association. All manuscripts require an abstract of 100-150 words
typed on a separate page and 5 - 10 key words. References cited
should be presented in the text by author and date and be collated into
a reference list at the end of the article with the following
information: author(s), year of publication, title and publishing data.
Authors are encouraged to consult the Publication Manual of
the American Psychological Association (6th Edition, see short downloadable Style Sheet for
quick overview or, for another overview, visit
this page or this
page). In addition, please see our Manuscript Preparation
guide for further details on style.
Authors should supply a short biography of about 100
words, with a full mailing address, an electronic-mail address, and
phone and fax numbers. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission
from copyright holders for reproducing any illustrations, tables,
figures or lengthy quotations previously published elsewhere. Upon
acceptance of their paper, authors will be required to submit an
electronic version of their paper.
Authors are sent proofs of their article prior to
publication and receive electronic copies of offprints of the published
version, plus one copy of
the journal on publication.
Authors must submit
their manuscript on the new website devoted to manuscript submission
and review. The manuscript submission system is a fully
web-based peer review and
submission system based on a platform produced by
ScholarOne®. It is used to manage the entire manuscript
process from submission to publication. Using a graphical interface,
the system guides authors through a simple and efficient submission
process via a series of step-by-step prompts.
The system makes it easy for authors to submit articles and
revisions and to monitor the place of their manuscript in the review
process. It also facilitates reviewers’ access to submitted
articles and will allow them to deliver their comments to the
editors. Furthermore, this system helps the editorial
team manage information as well as speed up the peer review and
publication process. We expect that this will make the editorial
process more transparent and the entire review process timelier.
All of the other aspects of the journal’s production (simultaneous
paper and electronic publication) will remain unchanged. Please
note that this change does not affect book reviews, which will continue
to be managed via email by the Book Review Editors.
To submit a manuscript please visit http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/thpsyc
and follow the instructions. As of January 1, 2007, authors who
wish to have their articles considered for publication by Theory &
Psychology need to submit them via this manuscript submission website.
The Theory & Psychology editorial team recognizes that a web-based
submission may not be possible for some authors. Authors who
cannot submit their articles via the web-based system should contact
the editorial office (thpsyc@ucalgary.ca)
to discuss alternative
submission procedures.
